    March 31

Just put one foot in front of the other.

I did it!!   I stayed up 24++++ hours and walked and walked and walked some more.
There is a University here in MI that put on a cancer relay.  WOW!  What a turn out.  I've never been to one and didn't know what to expect.   My cousin and I arrived in Kzoo approx 11:30am on Saturday.  We unloaded some stuff and then my baby brother put us to work.   His "team" organized this event.  And what a GREAT EVENT it was!
At approx 3:00pm on Saturday they had the "opening ceremonies"... tears tears and more tears..... The cancer survivors or as their shirts said "LIVING PROOF" did the first lap, then they came and put a sash on their care givers and did a lap with them.  Then we all joined in and walked.  Very powerful moments through out the entire event.

Due to the weather they had to hold the event indoors.  There was a DJ blasting music throughout the entire event.  There were different things to do at different times of the event. i.e. tug of war, 3 legged races, Slurpee bongs, etc.

By far the most moving was the lighting of the luminaries.... OMG!!   This is where you take a white paper bag (lunch bag size) and write in honor of or in memory of and someones name.  And then at 9:00pm they shut the lights off and lit them up with a moment of silence.  Since the event was rockin the entire time up until then, your ears rang and the only thing that could be heard was sobs.  Very Powerful!   To read those luminaries with children's photos, with I love and miss you Mom or just simply a name.

At 2 am the my baby brother made his speech.  WOW!   Very Powerful, very moving and completely heart felt.  He asked us all to Pledge, not a promise that you will forget in a week or two but a Pledge of something that we will do to help fight cancer, that you will honor forever.  Both he and my other brother said their pledge out loud over the microphone that they will do whatever it takes to help their sister (me) to quit smoking.  Tears, tears and more tears.... Don't they know not to make me cry when I'm tired.... Geesh!   What choice do I have now?  Plus his entire speech had lots in tears, more in cheers, and he received a standing ovation.  He's so amazing.

At 4:00am my feet were screaming for me to stop so I sat for a few minutes with my feet up.  Around comes a young man maybe 22 yrs old.  Crippled from CP and blind from cancer with his service dog.  He walked one, two, three laps.  With no ease he struggled with his steps but he walked.  That was all I needed up I went and walked on.  If he could walk with the body he had I surely could walk through my pain.  He walked two hours straight!

By 5:30am I was exhausted.  I had been up 24 hours and was on my 4th pot of coffee.   (GOD BLESS COFFEE!!)
My cousin was napping as were many others.  My feet were blistered, my legs were screaming in pain and I was feeling lonely.  I wanted to sit down and take a rest.   I thought wow, I bet this is exactly what a parent of a child with cancer feels.  They pace the floors of hospitals, time and time again, praying and hoping for an end to the cancer and praying for miracles.  I had an end time of 11 AM the parents and loved ones watching their children, mother, father, sister, brother suffering from Cancer never have an "end time" of their pain.  So I walked on for them.

BTW I did have a pedometer on.... I didn't put it on until 3:30 am...by 5:30 am I had walked 6600 steps!  And then I went to check it at 9am.... I lost it... oh well.... I guess God was telling me it's not how many steps you take but that you can take them.  AMEN!!

It was an amazing event that I hope to be able to do again in the future.  I took so much from it I feel I may know a bit more about families and loved ones dealing with cancer feel like.

I read a powerful statement by a young woman that had battled cancer and won!!  It read:  worrying is like a rocking chair it gives you something to do but it gets you no where.   WOW!

If you ever get a chance to participate in an event like this.  Do it.  You will be amazed at what you can do and what others can do as well.

    lifes bank account

This is AWESOME .... something we should all remember.
A 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud man, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with his hair fashionably combed and shaved perfectly, even though he is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today.
His wife of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary. After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, he smiled sweetly when told his room was ready.
As he maneuvered his walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of his tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on his window.
I love it,' he stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.
'Mr. Jones, you haven't seen the room; just wait.'
That doesn't have anything to do with it,' he replied.
Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged .. it's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it.
    'It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice;
I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the  parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do.
Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open, I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away. Just for this time in my life.
Old age is like a bank account. You withdraw from what you've put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank  account of memories!
Thank you for your part in filling my Memory Bank. I am still depositing.
'Remember the five simple rules to be happy:
    1. Free your heart from hatred.
    2. Free your mind from worries.
    3. Live simply.
    4. Give more.
    5. Expect less.

    good stuff

Today I'm posting only positive things.

I walked out the door this morning to go to work and there were flowers blooming in one of my flower beds!!   WAHOO!!  HELLO SPRING!!!

I'm walking in a cancer relay walk this weekend.   Geesh... will I be showing my age or what..... yikes... it's a 24+ hour event.  Someone from your "team" must be walking the track at all times.   We have a pretty large team.  I only know two members.   It's at my baby brother's college.  Should be fun and it's for sure a great cause.   Baby bro said, bring a blanket and pillow if you think you'll need a nap (ya think?!?!) And then he laughs and said, but remember I have a mega phone and I'm not afraid to use it.  tee hee   STINKER!

My hubby has been helping around the house so much, it's wonderful.   I make sure to tell him thank you every single day for the thing he does and if need be I'll say it 30 times a day.

My bff is celebrating a birthday tomorrow.  I'm so happy for her, she's excited.  I'm going to be her DD for the night and that shouldn't be hard since I'm still taking a "break" from the drinking.

My friend with Hairy Cell Leukemia has been approved for a clinical trial in Ch*c@g0.  WAHOO!!   Fingers crossed and prayers please.  the Leukemia foundation/association is going to help pay for housing for while he is down there.  Double Wahoo!!

I am connecting more with a brother of mine that has been distant towards me for some time.  Which is understandable.   It's baby steps but I'm so over the moon about it.
hmmmmm imagine that my brothers making me smile????  tee hee

Well that's what's going on for me right now.   I hope that your week is bright and cheery even if your weather is not.
    Take care!

I think we could all use this.

Click the words above and enjoy!!

    this and that

    Morning all.
I'm taking some time off of drinking.... my liver sent in a special request.  Feels like I drank for a week straight.  That is not me.  So I'm going to take as many days off as I drank in a row.  Should be interesting bowling tonight without beer.  tee hee ha ha

Hey anybody ever make corned beef hash?   I've always wanted to try.   I love corned beef, potatoes and onions however I don't like it in a hash.  I think it's because every time I've tried it the texture is like a can of dog food.  EEEEEEEEEWWWWWW!   So have you made it crispy?

The company I work for is holding on by threads. Boss has no clue or doesn't want to face the reality of the situation.  He told me to pay the car payments with credit cards.... how stupid is that?!?!?  No money for payroll this week either.   It just sucks!
I hate this economy.   Hubby's work asked for concessions.... I've had about all I can take dealing with money BS.   It's got me physically ill.  Another reason I'm taking a break from drinking.  This is no time to allow myself to become addicted to something.    Oh and another "wonderful thing"  grrr!  My uncle is suing my mom and aunt.  LOVELY!  What ever happened to talking with family before you go to a court?   More money BS!

Well I'm hoping your hump day finds you full of smiles and songs.
    Take care all.

    Shamrock shakin 2009

Wow what a great weekend!  It was hell on my body but my soul is dancing still!  Wahoo!

Friday we finally got on the road about 10:30ish... And we stopped for lunch at an exit along the way... well not just any exit it is a huge shopping outlet mall.  We did no shopping just eating.   While eating lunch 3 of the girls we are meeting walk in for lunch.  What are the odds of that!?!?!  They were doing some shopping and thought they'd grab a bite to eat before hitting the road again.  We laughed and had a great time.  Of course we were dressed in our green with shamrocks and blinking necklaces and the bartender said, oh my is today st. patty's day.  We laughed and said no and she was puzzled! tee hee!!!   We explained to her about the festival we are all going to.
We eat tell the others see ya soon and head out for our destination of the weekend.
the Doherty Hotel.   We get into our room laugh our butts off the entire way to the room, and once we are in the room the laughter continues.  We decorate and get things put away.  Our room is so small. But we don't care as long as we keep our things orderly it works well.  And having a clean freak along (my cousin) doesn't hurt.  Tee hee
We teased her all weekend long about our room being Fung Shui.  tee hee ha ha
We met up with the other gals we were meeting down in the Leprechaun Lounge (I swear that is the real name!) Listened to some great music, drank beer and made some new friends.   I was exhausted from no sleep the prior night and my body was so fighting with me to go to bed.  So finally I gave in.   UGH!    Tee hee ha ha  not that I missed much as the Leprechaun lounge is directly below my room and since I slept on an air mattress on the floor I was still groovin while I was sleeping.  tee hee ha ha
Saturday the weather was great for the parade.  We watched it from our room window which I love!   Once the clown band went by we left the hotel to go see the clown band perform.  WHAT A GREAT THING!!
We went to the Moose lodge and enjoyed watching them perform for a few hours.   What an amazing group of men.  They age from 14- 94.  All men and they are so very entertaining.  I bought a shirt and asked them to sign it.  That was a barrel of laughs in itself! tee hee ha ha    One gentleman who had to be at least in his 80's said, "where should I sign it?"  I laughed and told him where ever you are most comfortable.   He smiled BIG!  And said o.k. I'm going to turn and you pull it up a bit so when the shirt lays where it should my fellas will think I signed it in a GREAT place, but I'm way to much of a gentlemen to actually do it there o.k.    I laughed and said o.k. Mind you I had three shirts on at this point.  Tee hee ha ha!  After the shirt was signed and the playing was done back to the hotel for us where another round was about to start.  (check out the clown band here scottville clown band )

Saturday night the hotel was the busiest I've ever seen it in the many years I've been going there. WOW crazy busy packed.  Not for everyone, but I love it!   I had so much fun!!!
I do think it's funny that out of 15 women that went with us that the 3 in our room seemed to attract most of the men folk.  Tee hee ha ha ....   I never ever shy about expressing to anyone (especially men) that I am married.  This one great guy Brad was over the moon about that.  He too was married and was there with a bunch of his "friends" and they made a pact that they would all remove the rings.    He hated it.  So after talking about it for hours, he and I walked up to his room together and got his ring.  We called ourselves the wedding ring twins with powers.  Tee hee ha ha   His "pals" thought that we were doing the stupid thing of "hookin up"  Brad and I just laughed and danced and drank more beer!   He thanked me for reminding him that he married his wife forever and that 1 weekend isn't worth the BS that messing around can cause.    Funny how we meet people that seem as though we were meant to talk with.
Had some more fun and met some more great people and well some real bozo's one of which was a cling on to my sister.  UGH!   BEAT IT BUDDY!   I just got creepy vibes from him. eeeww... finally I told her that's it you're not playing with that boy no more.  Of course she's having fun and says he's nice. Blah blah Blah... well he wasn't nice at all.   With some help from the large crowd and security we got rid of him.
It was a great time, I do have to rethink the invite to some as it was more of taking care of then I would have liked it to be.   That's not why I go.    I wasn't about to let anyone ruin this weekend for me that's just me!

So now I'm trying to remind my boss that I've never worked a whole day on St. Patty's day and I plan on continuing the tradition.  He's not happy.  GRR!!
THEN after that my liver must have rest.
Hope you are having a great day... don't forget to shake your shamrocks tomorrow!!  ttfn

    Feelin Green?????

    WAHOO!!!  YIPPIEE!!!  HOORAY!!!

It's finally here!!   It's a girls weekend at an Irish festival!!!  Can it get any better???  I think not!!
My truck is pulling out (completely decorated of course) at 10 am tomorrow to head to the festival!   I love this holiday, as if you didn't know that already right?    I've been asked so many times, why is this such a favorite holiday for you?   I said well first it's the happiest time of the year.  They always say no, Christmas time is... I disagree completely.  Most people at Christmas are worried about money, what gifts to buy, who's house they are going to and miss loved ones lost more than ever.  St. Patrick's day you smile at a stranger and they smile back and even say HI!  I ask you what other holiday does that happen?  Not one.
I always get so excited about this trip and then on Sunday evening it's a huge crash for me.  Oh well it's gotta happen I guess.

I hope you all have a fantastic weekend remember to wear your green!!   Oh and don't worry there will be NO driving once we reach our hotel for the entire weekend.  I'm smarter than to drink and drive.
There's a huge party Friday night at the hotel we stay at.  And Saturday night too, but Saturday is fun because of the Parade, clown band and just walking on the streets of this little town shopping, laughing and enjoying the costumes and attitudes of all!   I'll put a link at the bottom of this entry to give you a heads up as to where we will be and the fun we will have!!   Don't worry I've got my eyes out for those lil leprechauns as well!
Take care all have a great weekend and know that I'll be smiling, laughing, drinking, and visiting!
Green Alligators, and long neck geese, some humpty back camels and some chimpanzees, some cats, some rats, some elephants as sure as your born, the loveliest of all is the Unicorn.!!!

You may or may not know that I went private.  I was getting some freaky comments.  And not just spam.
Now I've got this creep trying to get in anyway he can.   Please I think this is who the friend () of ours was talking about when she told us to delete her.   Please be on your high alert!  Do not just invite anybody to be your friend.   the name he is using is right on the money if you READ it.
It may look like his name is the same as a Chinese food item but beware!   EVERY day he's trying to get into my space.
And I've had like 14 no name requests to be friends or to view my space.
    Please be careful!!

    brothers

My brothers are on a 2 week Cruise with the parents.  Oh my goodness do I miss them.  It's funny because some weeks I would talk with one and not the other.  But it's been over a week since I've talked to any of them.

I miss them terribly.  And when they come home (Friday) I will be leaving for my adventures.  So for sure next week they will be smothered by me.  Poor fellas!  Tee hee ha ha
NO you can't go visit your friends, NO you can't go on that date!  I need to see you hug you and talk with you.   So sit still! tee hee ha ha

Stop it!  Hush!!  That's about enough!   I am listening!    O.k. enough or I'll pull your plugs!!!!

That was the conversation I had with my lil motorcycle at lunch today.  It was screaming at me... GET ME OUT!!  I WANT TO BE OUT OF HIBERNATION!    ARE YOU LISTENING TO THOSE OTHER BIKES OUT THERE?
I WANT TO FEEL THAT SUN!!

tee hee ha ha   It's a beautiful sunny day here today.  Of course being stuck in the cave of an office I wouldn't really know.  It's about 66 degrees and beautiful.  Breezy.
Hopefully it will help our lil spring blooms to spring up.

Bowling was a blast last night.   I almost bowled my first 200 of the season, still gotta go for it!  I bowled very well all three games.    One of our team mates won $444 !!  too cool!

I'm hoping to go over to a friends house tonight.  They invited hubby and I.  Mentioned it to Mr. Happy and well he's not going.  ((**Sigh**))    Oh well his loss.   I do get tired of going everywhere by myself.  You'd think I'd be used to it by now though.  That's what he thinks too!  tee hee

I so have to clean my vehicle this weekend so it can be decorated in all the shamrocks and leprechauns.  And then it will be ready for our girls road trip next weekend.   Wahoo!!!

Well you all have a beautiful weekend.  Remember to think of your blessings and smile.  Sending love to ya!

    March 05

    sequel to yesterday's questions

    O.K. so here's my thoughts.

    1.  Do you think there will be an increase or a decrease in births of babies 8 months to 1 year from now ?
At first I thought decrease because everyone would know they couldn't afford it.   Then I thought hmmmm.... there are tons of people layed off.  People are home more together.  Sex is a "release" and who's gonna have money for birth control???

    2.  Do you think that all short men have a complex?
Yes, I do.    I've thought long and hard about this one.  I used to not believe it was true but I've witnessed it so many times first hand.   I don't think around their families they are like this but out in public, yep.

    3.  Do you think that women who wear glasses really never make passes?
tee hee ha ha ... I was trying to remember how that saying went is all?   tee hee ha ha And yes I think that women who wear glasses do make passes.

    4.  Do you think that children of today's world are less respectful than children born 30+ years ago?
I do believe that society as a whole is much more disrespectful than we were 30 years ago.   I hear children talking to their parents and I am shocked at how they speak to them and then I hear the parents response and understand they speak & act just a poorly.

    5.  Do you think that 20 years from now that automobiles will fly?
I do believe this will happen.  I'm not sure that 20 years from now will be the time.  I'm not sure when but It will happen.

    6.  Do you think that someone somewhere knows more about that awful disease of cancer and that someone somewhere is not allowing them to come forward?
I used to believe this.  Sometimes I fight with it still.   However I know that there are so many cancers out there and everyone's body is different and every cancer cell is as well.  I just don't understand why we are not winning the "war" on this more.

    7.  Do you think that having cable TV, Internet, and etc. is a necessity or luxury?
luxury. FOR SURE!  I've been teased countless times.  I've been told you are so behind the times... because we don't have cable.  I have a very hard time in paying money to be lazy and watch tv.  Sorry I do.  I put the money saved from that into purchasing a cabin and / or second home.

    8.  Do you think that police men really look more at the red vehicle speeders than any other color?
You hear all the time they look for the red ones the sports cars blah blah blah... after several years of seeing cars getting pulled over and talking with officers.  It's just the fast ones they are looking for and you're right JoAnn radar knows no color. tee hee

    9.  Do you think that where you live (as in climate not economy) has anything to do with the amount or lack of domestic abuse?
Yes, I do believe this.  I think that these cold winter months where we all have cabin fever and are stuck inside for what seems like forever and then arguing starts and etc.   I think if people at least walk outside or something for a moment or two that mabye things could cool down rather than heating up to this point.

    10.  Do you think that people that say "I do" these days actually mean forever?
This is a tricky one.   Most people in their hearts do believe that they will love so and so forever.  However with every little thing, it's either cheat or divorce.   When I was a kid I thought for sure by the time I was an old lady (in my forty's tee hee funny how it doesn't seem old at all now!) that it would take months and months of work and pleadings to get married and divorces would be done at drive thru's.   Rather than the way it is now.

    Thanks for thinking with me!

Silly things that cross my mind.

What do you think?   I'll tell you what I think after I've received your answers.   If you have time to answer can you explain why you think that.

OMG!!   Get this.... I was asked by my father in law to help him find his sister whom just had an 80th birthday in January.  I FOUND HER!!!    And she's thrilled to hear from us and even more thrilled to be able to talk with her brother again.   It's been 20 years since they have spoken.  WAHOO!! doing the happy dance.  Wahoo!!

    how old am I??

    O.k. this is odd.
I'm in my late 30's ((**shudder**)) and I've got an issue that I never really had to deal with until now.
I've been told all my life oh you have such great skin.  You never have a blemish.
Well for the most part that has been true.

    Until now.
Oh my... what's going on?  I can count several blemishes/zits/bumps/stars on my face.  It's not that time if ya know what I mean ladies.  So what is going on?   I only wear makeup maybe once a month.  maybe.
I talked to my aunt and she said, I had the same thing happen to me.  When you're in your 50's things return to normal.   HUH?!?!?
I don't wanna wait until my 50's before my face is smooth again.
I've never had an issue with acne before so why now?
My sister in law told me to use our hubby's grandmothers recipe for a face scrub.  I think I'll try it if I can remember all of it.    I know rosemary is in there, lemon juice, water, sugar and something else I can't remember.
Heck even if I don't look good maybe my flavorful smell will help. tee hee ha ha
    Hope your week is beautiful.
